These “chickens” of the forest love to sit still for photos. That is, of course, if you didn’t startle them out of their roost. Nothing gets your heart pumping quite like the burst of wings beating as they fly up unexpectedly from the trail-side brush. But if you see them, and they see you, spruce grouse will sit still for photos all day long.

Sheep tend to gather on particular, southern-facing outcroppings of rock. We can take you there.
By far one of the most beloved creatures of the forest. Despite their massive size—often larger than a horse—these typically docile herbivores have a way of blending into the forest in silence. Like we always say, just because you didn’t see a moose, doesn’t mean one didn’t see you! Keep your eyes peeled. Moose are a common critter along out routes.

When spruce grouse hens flutter around or refuse to clear the trail, there’s often little chicks nearby hugging the forest floor, nestled in leaves or under low branches, safe and out of sight. Families of grouse are a common sight, especially near dry patches of ground and gravel.
It’s so easy to keep your head down, focused on the trail ahead of you or every little rock and root. Train your eyes to explore in all directions, including the sky, and we promise, you’ll see all that nature has to offer.
